Glamping pod or glass dome? Prices, running costs and what guests book

The timber pod is the classic British glamping unit. A glass dome sells a different night: the sky from the bed, all year. Here is how the two differ, with our 2026 prices.

Glamping pod or glass dome? Prices, running costs and what guests book

If you are adding glamping to a farm, a holiday park or a pub with a back field, the first unit most people look at is a glamping pod. Guests know it from a hundred listings. That is also its problem: one pod looks much like the next, and the night is priced like it. This article is about the unit that stands out.

What you are actually buying

A glamping pod is a small timber cabin with a curved roof, a door at one end and a window at the other. Guests see the outside through that one glazed end.

A glass dome is glazed from the floor to the apex. A SkyLodge is built on the Gutmann thermally broken aluminium façade system with 28 mm insulated glass, tempered outside and laminated inside. You lie in bed and look at the sky. That view is the whole product.

“Capsule house” is the newer name in the search results. It usually means a factory-built pod with a metal shell and a big window: closer to a pod than to a dome.

Our prices for 2026

From the 2026 catalogue, in euro, excluding VAT. The first figure is with mirrored Silverstone glazing, the second with SN Control solar-control glazing.

ModelFloor areaPrice
SkyLodge 520 m² · 215 sq ft€17,800 / €19,300
SkyLodge 628–35 m², with bathroom€25,000 / €27,000
SkyLodge 850–70 m²€44,500 / €48,500

The price covers the frame, the glazing, an app-controlled vent at the apex, floor lights, sockets and any of 25 RAL colours. Transport, installation, the interior and the water and power connections are quoted separately. The full breakdown is in what a glamping dome costs.

What the dome gives you

  • A higher night rate. Guests pay for the sky, and a dome with its own bathroom can be sold as a suite rather than as a cabin.
  • A longer season. Insulated glass and a vent at the apex keep it usable in winter. On a sunny winter day the dome warms itself to 23–25 °C. For exposed upland sites every model can be ordered with triple glazing.
  • No upkeep of the shell. Aluminium and glass do not rot, swell or need re-staining. The dome is designed for 50+ years and carries five years’ warranty on structure and glazing.
  • The photograph. On a listing, one dome makes people stop scrolling, and the picture does the marketing for the whole site.

Where to put it

A dome earns its price where there is something to look at: a valley, a lake, a dark sky away from streetlights. Give each one its own view and some distance from the next unit. If the field already has pods, the domes go at the best spot and become the top of the price list.

Planning

Ask your local planning authority early. The answer changes from council to council, and a structure assembled on site is assessed on its own terms. Our article on movable-structure status explains how this works across Europe.
